%name Underexposed: Down (and Out) in the Village

Walking along Carmine Street in the West Village, I’m always drawn to Our Lady of Pompeii Church, having spent much time inside seeking answers, or perhaps just seeking solace. This homeless man was sitting out front, as many do, with his face barely visible — a moment of surrender. I was wondering, “Has he given up? Is this his way of shutting out the world? What happened to him?” The answers could lie just a few feet up those steps…I know it’s where I found mine.
