BRT CRASHED IN FLATBUSH

On November 1, 1918: Over ninety people died in a Brooklyn Rapid Transit elevated train derailment at Malbone Street in Brooklyn. The accident, the worst in US history, became known as the Malbone Street Wreck and the street was later renamed Empire Boulevard in the wake of the tragedy.

JETS’ LUCKY NUMBER 13

On November 1, 1987: New York Jets retired Don Maynard’s jersey, #13. Maynard played wide receiver for the team from 1960 to 1972.
