On October 24, 1929: The Wall Street Crash of 1929 began; the day was known as “Black Thursday”. Black Tuesday, the official crash of the market, was days later on October 29th.

On October 24, 1931: The George Washington Bridge was dedicated, almost exactly four years after groundbreaking started on the construction of the bridge. It opened to traffic the next day.
