On September 21, 1897: The New York Sun ran the now-famous “Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus” editorial in which Francis Pharcellus Church responded to eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon’s letter (see below) asking about the jolly old man’s existence.

BORN ON THIS DAY: TARAL HICKS

On September 21, 1974: Actress and singer Taral Hicks was born in the Bronx. Hicks made her screen debut in 1995 in A Bronx Tale alongside Robert DeNiro. She later released a studio album in1997.
