On December 15, 1948: Alger Hiss, who was accused of being a Soviet spy, was indicted in New York City on two charges of perjury. Hiss was later found guilty of perjury after a second trial and served more than three years of a five-year prison sentence

HIT THE ROAD, JACK, VIA PORT AUTHORITY

On December 15, 1950: The south wing of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, between 8th and 9th Avenues and 40th and 41st Streets, opened. The north wing opened years later in 1979.

On December 15, 1915: Actor Jeff Chandler, best known for his portrayal of Cochise in Broken Arrow, was born in Brooklyn.
