SAME SEX MARRIAGE BECAME LEGALIZED
On June 24th, 2011: Same sex marriage was legalized in New York under the Marriage Equality Act, the bill passed by the New York State Assembly nine days prior. The act does not have residency restrictions, meaning that, fortunately, same sex couple don’t have to live in New York in order to get married here, and allows religious organizations to decline to officiate same sex marriages.
BORN ON THIS DAY: NANCY ALLEN
On June 24th, 1950: Actress Nancy Allen was born. Best known for roles in Carrie, the RoboCop trilogy, and Dressed to Kill, Allen has been nominated for one Golden Globe and three Saturn Awards. An activist against breast cancer, in 2010, Allen was named Executive Director of the weSPARK Cancer Support Center.
