PLAYING THE PALACE

On March 24, 1913: The Palace Theater opened at 1564 Broadway, and became the premiere venue for vaudeville. The theatre housed such notable productions as Sweet Charity, Beauty and the Beast, Legally Blonde, and the 2012 revival of Annie.


THE UNITED NATIONS FINDS A HOME

On March 24, 1947: American businessman John D. Rockefeller Jr. donated the site on which the headquarters of the United Nations was built. The building was completed in October 1952.

TOMMY HILFIGER

On March 24, 1951: Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger was born in upstate New York. He moved to the City in 1979 to pursue a career in fashion and founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation in 1985.
