On January 24, 1986: Actress and Manhattan native Whoopi Goldberg won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in The Color Purple. Watch her accept the award below:



A BOMB DOWNTOWN

On January 24, 1975: Four people were killed when a bomb exploded outside of Fraunces Tavern, on Broad and Pearl Streets. The bomb was attributed to Puerto Rican nationalist group FALN, along with over 40 other blasts in the 1970’s.
