On February 27, 1870: The first pneumatic-powered subway line was opened to the public. The railway didn’t operate on its opening day because of an engine failure, but within a week, passengers enjoyed taking the short journey under Broadway from Warren to Murray Street and back.
On February 26, 1993: The World Trade Center was bombed by Islamic Extremists. The bomb killed six people and more than one thousand people were injured when a van exploded in the parking garage beneath the building.
