A COMEDIAN IS BORN 

On January 19, 1971: Actor, writer, and producer Shawn Wayans was born in Manhattan. Writer for The Wayans Bros. television series and actor on Fox’s In Living Color as DJ SW-1, Wayans also starred in White Chicks (2004) and Little Man (2006) alongside his brother Marlon Wayans.

 

WELCOME, LITTLE RICKY

On January 19, 1953: Lucy Ricardo of I Love Lucy, a television series that took place in New York City, gave birth to Little Ricky. This episode attracted over 44 million viewers and received higher ratings than the inauguration of President Eisenhower.

FAREWELL, CITY OF ANGELS

On January 19, 1992: After 879 performances at the Virginia Theater (now know as the August Wilson Theater), the Broadway show City of Angels closed. Written by Larry Gelbart and directed by Michael Blakemore, the musical weaved together two plots: one of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay, and the other, an enactment of that screenplay.
