SCARLETT JOHANSSON

On November 22, 1984: Actress Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City. After beginning her career in the 1994 film North, Johansson has appeared in a wide range of films such as Match Point, Her, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Lost in Translation, and many more. She won a Tony award in 2010 for her work in A View From the Bridge, and has been nominated for numerous Golden Globes.


THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM

On November 22, 1965: The musical Man of La Mancha opened on the Thrust stage at the ANTA Washington Square Theatre. The production, based off of Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, ran for over 2,000 performances and won many Tony awards. It has since seen numerous revivals and a 1972 film adaptation.

 

LET’S KISS AND MAKE UP

On November 22, 1927: Funny Face, composed by George Gershwin and with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, opened on Broadway at the newly built Alvin Theatre. It starred Fred Astaire and his sister Adele Astaire. Fred Astaire went on to make 31 musical films and is a historical US icon.
