On September 1, 1971: Fashion stylist Rachel Zoe was born in New York City. After graduating from George Washington University, she became a highly influential fashion editor, eventually transitioning into becoming both a stylist for numerous celebrities, as well as a reality TV star.

 

A POLITICAL SCANDAL IN THE MAYOR’S OFFICE

On September 1, 1932: Greenwich Village native James J. “Beau James” Walker resigned from his post as Mayor of New York City amid a corruption scandal. He promptly fled to Europe with showgirl and future wife Betty Compton to avoid criminal prosecution.

DON BLACKMAN

On September 1, 1953: Jazz-funk pianist, singer, and songwriter Don Blackman was born in Jamaica, Queens. Blackman worked as a session musician, recorded two solo albums, and wrote and scored music for TV, commercials, and movies. He passed away in 2013 at age 59.
