PAT BENATAR

On January 10, 1953: Four-time Grammy Award-winning singer Pat Benatar was born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. One of the most heavily rotated artists during the early days of MTV, Benatar is known for her hit singels You Better Run, Love is a Battlefield, and Hit Me With Your Best Shot.




A REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE

On January 10, 1939: Actor Sal Mineo was born in the Bronx. Mineo was best known for his role opposite James Dean as John ‘Plato’ Crawford in Rebel Without A Cause. The performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, a nomination he also received for his work in Exodus.




FROM CITY HALL TO THE BRONX

On January 10, 1900: Bids were sent out for the construction of an underground railroad to run from City Hall to the Bronx. New York’s first subway line opened four years after the bids were sent. Today, the subway delivers approximately 1.7 billion rides per year.
