NEW YORK’S FIRST SUBWAY DEBUTED
On February 26, 1870: The first NYC subway line, the air powered Beach Pneumatic Transit, opened to the public. The tunnel had only one train car and the single track ran the entirety of one block, about 300 feet down Broadway to Murray Street.
1993 WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMBING
On February 26, 1993: A bomb exploded below the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing six people and injuring more than 1,000 in a terrorist attack. The ensuing investigation eventually pinned the blame on a group of Islamic fundamentalists.
