SID & NANCY, NO LONGER

On October 12, 1978: Nancy Spungen, Sid Vicious’ girlfriend, was found dead in a hotel room at the Chelsea Hotel. She suffered a single stab wound to the abdomen. Vicious was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, but died from a drug overdose before the trial could take place.

JESUS ON BROADWAY

On October 12, 1971: The Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar premiered at the Mark Hellinger Theater. The production of the rock opera ran for 711 performances and was adapted into a successful film in 1973.


SCOTT O’GRADY

On October 12, 1965: Former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Scott O’Grady was born in Brooklyn. The 2001 film Behind Enemy Lines, starring Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson, was loosely based on O’Grady’s experiences in Bosnia during the mid-1990s.
