On May 2, 1937: The famed voice actor Lorenzo Music was born in Brooklyn. Though some might recognize him as Carlton the doorman from the CBS sitcom Rhoda, Music was a prolific voice actor, and is best known for his work on the animated series Garfield and Friends, voicing the title character.

The Queen Elizabeth 2 served as a flagship of the Cunard fleet until being succeeded by the, which remains the largest ocean liner ever constructed and the only one still in service.

On May 2, 1977: The Broadway revival of The King and I opened at the Uris Theatre for 719 performances. Actors Yul Brynner and Constance Towers both reprised their roles from the original Tony Award winning Broadway production. Brenner was adamant that renovations and upgrades be made to the Uris (and other venues he performed in thereafter) prior to the shows opening, something he was often thanked for by many performers in the following years.
