On July 11, 1982: The musical Seven Bride for Seven Brothers, a pioneering take on the Roman legend of the Rape of the Sabine women, closed on Broadway after just five performances. Adapted from 1954 Oscar-nominated musical film of the same name, the stage version was a flop though it enjoyed a very successful national tour.
