THE DAILY SHOW’S STAR IS BORN

On November 28, 1962: TV personality Jon Stewart was born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz in New York City. Best known for his time spent as the host of the acclaimed The Daily Show on Comedy Central, Stewart’s biting critique of other news shows garnerned him both comedy and journalism awards in the process.


THE RETURN OF THE NYSE

On November 28, 1914: The New York Stock Exchange reopened for bond trading after a war-induced closure in July which lasted nearly four months. With the current volume of the NYSE sitting at a bit over $20.1 trillion, a four month closure of the New York Stock Exchange seems unimaginable today.

ADVERTISING’S PIE IN THE SKY

On November 28, 1922: The first skywriting used for advertising in the U.S. was demonstrated over Times Square. Captain Cyril Turner of the Royal Airforce spelled out “Hello, U.S.A. Call Vanderbilt 7200″ in white smoke. 47,000 people called in response to the message.
