On July 8, 1693: New York City authorized the first police uniforms in the American colonies. The first uniforms included tail coats and a cane top hat. Both the tail coats and cane top hats were removed to make way for more modern uniforms.

On July 8, 1968: Actor Michael Weatherly was born. Best known for his roles as Special Agent Tony DiNozzo on the hit television series, NCIS and Logan Cale on Dark Angel, Weatherly began his acting career with a minor role as Theo Huxtable’s roommate on The Cosby Show.

PRESIDENT WILSON RETURNED TO NYC

On July 8, 1919: President Woodrow Wilson returned from the Palace of Versailles after signing the Treaty of Versailles. The agreement was one of the treaties to end World War I, as it terminated the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. Two days after his return, on July 10th, Wilson personally delivered the treaty to the Senate, becoming the first president to address the Senate on the terms of a peace treaty since 1789.
