SHOW ME THE MONEY

On January 2, 1968: Actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. was born in the Bronx. Gooding, Jr. is best known for his role in 1996’s  Jerry Maguire, a role for which he won an Academy Award. He subsequently held roles in a long string of successful films, including Rat Race, As Good as It Gets, Snow Dogs, and Boyz in Da Hood. 




IT’S A HARDKNOCK LIFE

On January 2, 1983: Annie closed on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre after 2,377 performances. A Broadway classic that has seen a wildly successful film adaptation and countless tours and revivals, Annie has won a staggering amount of Tony and Drama Desk Awards over the years.




NAMATH SIGNED A BIG CONTRACT

On January 2, 1965: Joe Namath signed with the Jets. His contract was a record amount (for a professional football player at the time) reported to be $427,000. Namath played for the Jets for 11 years, and his jersey number (12) was retired after the end of his career.
