A QUEEN IS BORN
On December 18, 1980: Singer and former The Voice coach Christina Aguilera was born on Staten Island. A queen of pop music, Aguilera got her start among other pop stars on The Mickey Mouse Club. She since has released a number of incredibly successful albums, winning numerous awards (including Grammys) along the way.
SHOOT FOR THE MOON
On December 18, 1839: John William Draper, while a professor at NYU, became the first person in the U.S. to successfully take a daguerreotype photo of the moon. The daguerreotype was the first photographic process that was brought into widespread, mainstream use. It is known for it’s metallic-silver like sheen.
On December 18, 1956: Former Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto signed on to become a radio and TV announcer for New York Yankees games. He continued in this role for 40 years. A New York Native, Rizzuto spent his entire playing career with the Yankees.
