On May 29, 1984: Carmelo Anthony was born in Red Hook, Brooklyn. After moving to Baltimore at age eight, Anthony honed his basketball skills and played for Syracuse University, the Denver Nuggets, and currently for the New York Knicks. In 2014, Anthony set a Madison Square Garden and Knicks’ single-game scoring record, scoring 62 points.

On May 29, 1980: English Romanticist painter J.M.W. Turner sold his painting, Juliet and Her Nurse, for $7.04 million at Sotheby’s. The sale marked a new record, becoming the highest amount a painting had sold for at an art auction.

On May 29, 1942: Actor Kevin Conway was born in New York City. Conway has appeared in a number of off-Broadway productions that include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s NestThe Elephant Man, Other People’s Money, and When You Comin’ Back, Red Ryder? He has also starred in films such as The Quick and the DeadMercury Rising, and Invincible.
