BROOKE SHIELDS

On May 31st, 1965: Actress Brooke Shields was born in New York City. Shields was a child model but became a star when she appeared in the controversial film Pretty Baby, where she played a child prostitute. She went on to appear in such films as Blue Lagoon and Endless Love. She also starred in TV shows, including Suddenly SusanNip/Tuck, and That ’70s  Show.

 

THE WALDORF ASTORIA’S BEGINNINGS

On May 31, 1837: The Astor Hotel opened, and would later become known as the Waldorf Astoria New York Hotel, located on Park Avenue in Manhattan. Interestingly enough, the Waldorf Astoria served as Paris Hilton’s childhood home.

I WAS IN THE 212

On May 31, 1991: Rapper Azealia Banks was born in Harlem. She wrote raps and R&B songs as a creative outlet and later released the hit song “212” in 2011. Ironically, she wrote the New York-centric song in Montreal and filmed the music video there. She has since released numerous mixtapes online.
