On November 6, 2001: Michael Bloomberg was elected Mayor of New York City. A Boston native, Bloomberg served as the Mayor of NY from 2002 through 2013. Known for his strong stances on environmentalism and public health, Bloomberg changed the image of the city and its citizens during his tenure as mayor.


On November 6, 1979: Basketball player and reality TV star Lamar Odom was born in South Jamaica, Queens. Most recently playing for the New York Knicks, Odom is also known for his life off the court, specifically for his relationship with reality TV star Khloé Kardashian.

On November 6, 1973: Abe Beame was elected into office becoming the first Jewish Mayor of New York City, serving from 1974 through 1977. Beame faced one of the worst fiscal crises in city history as well as the 1977 citywide blackout.
