AN ARTIST IS BORN
On December 22, 1960: Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn. After gaining notoriety for his affiliation with the graffiti crew SAMO, Basquiat’s art took on a life all it’s own. Basquiat died in 1988, however his art lives on, and some would say that it’s popularity continues to grow as time passes.

On December 22, 1937: The Lincoln Tunnel, originally intended to be called the Midtown Vehicular Tunnel, opened to traffic and charged 50 cents per passenger car. The tunnel caries over 100,000 vehicles per day, connecting Midtown with the city of Weehawken, New Jersey.
On December 22, 1995: MLB pitcher David Cone signed a three year contract worth $19.5 million with the New York Yankees. He was on the Yankees’ World Series team twice, and was overall a five time World Series champion. Overall, Cone pitched 2,688 strikeouts.
