On April 24, 1942: The Broadway legend Barbra Streisand was born in Brooklyn. She has won numerous awards, including Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys. Having won each of the four major annual American entertainment awards makes Streisand one of only a handful of individuals to achieve a “Grand Slam of Show Business,” otherwise know as an EGOT.



On April 24, 1865: Following the assassination of President Lincoln, his body arrived in New York City and was transported to City Hall. More than 500,000 people mourned and gathered for their chance to view the slain commander-in-chief as he lay in state.
