AN ORIGINAL GANGSTER IS BORN

On January 17,1899: Al Capone was born in Brooklyn. Known for running large illegal operations during the Prohibition era out of Chicago, Capone has become one of the most recognized and fabled gangsters in American history. He, however, spent 11 years in Alcatraz Prison on the grounds of tax evasion.

ANDY KAUFMAN

On January 17, 1949: Actor and performance artist Andy Kaufman was born in New York City. Kaufman, best known for his portrayal of Latka Gravas on Taxi, died in 1984.
