NYC’S FIRST KOSHER BUTCHER

On November 15, 1660: Asser Levy, one of the first Jewish settlers of New Amsterdam, became the first kosher butcher licensed in what later became New York City. His slaughterhouse was located on modern day Wall Street.

BORN ON THIS DAY: OL’ DIRTY BASTARD

On November 15, 1968: Rapper and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (or ODB) was born Russell Tyrone Jones in Brooklyn. ODB died of a drug overdose two days shy of this 36th birthday in 2004. RIP.
