Natalia Paruz’s dancing career was cut short when she was hit by a car. But Paruz soon discovered another endeavor about which she would become equally passionate: playing the saw. Paruz, a.k.a. “The Saw Lady,” was drawn to the instrument for its unique sound and the way that both blade and bow move in harmony, creating a visual experience to accompany the auditory. Though Paruz has performed at notable venues worldwide, she swears by the superior acoustics of New York City’s subway stations—so that’s where she’s likely to be found, cradling saw.
