Painter, author, conservationist, and philanthropist are only a few of the categories Alex Beard falls under. Within his craft, he is widely known for his wildlife paintings, as well as his distinctive style of “Abstract Naturalism.” Growing up in New York City, Alex was surrounded by prominent figures in the art world, such as Andy Warhol, Jackie Kennedy, and his uncle Peter Beard, which cultivated his love for painting and drawing. To kick off the series, Alex shares with New York Natives the story of his childhood, his connection to the Beard’s Erie Basin (now Red Hook in Brooklyn) and the impact that his predecessors had on his career.
