Where is he from? Greenwich Village

What’s he done? Downey made his screen debut at the age of five in his father’s film Pound. He launched to stardom in the 1980s, appearing as a cast member of SNL and in many films such as Less Than Zero and SoapdishHe earned an Oscar nomination in 1992 for his role in Chaplin. Downey has recently starred in Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man.

Why is he an icon? Downey’s early success was marred by years of struggles with the law and drug abuse. He managed to do the nearly-unthinkable in Hollywood: he turned his life around and earned a resurgence of critical and popular acclaim. He is considered to be one of Hollywood’s A-list actors.
