What’s he done? Bogart began acting in the 1920s and catapulted to leading man status in the early 1940s, with hits such as High Sierra, Maltese Falcon, and CasablancaHe was also married to fellow native icon, Lauren Bacall, from 1945 until 1957 (his death).

Why is he an icon? Bogart ranks as one of the greatest male stars in all of American cinema history although he only ever won one Academy Award for his role in Sabrina. He appeared in 75 feature films in his nearly 30-year-long career.
