Native Icon Essie Weingarten‘s Sticky Chicken

Native Icon Essie Weingarten, the Queen of the Mani/Pedi, gave us the recipe for her crowd pleasing Sticky Chicken… and we’re passing it on!

Essie says:

I ask the butcher to take the bones out and cut the chicken into cubes of about 2 inch squares.

Salt the chicken almost like what you would do to kosher it. Kosher salt and then add pepper.

Take 1 cup of honey

1 cup of ketchup

1 cup of raw sugar

1/2 a cup of soy sauce.

5 pieces of fresh garlic -I use a garlic press

Put all ingredients into a sauce pot and simmer until it is all liquid. Let it cool down…

Then, take the chicken, put into pans with the sauce on the bottom of the pan then over the chicken with the sauce.

Cover and marinate in fridge for at least 3 hours…sometimes I leave it over night ….same results.

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Place the pans into the oven for 60 minutes however after 30 minutes turn the chicken and use the sauce over the chicken again. 30 minutes later, it’s done.
